Curriculum development in Mexico

Creating a future-oriented extracurricular program for middle and high school students in Mexico

Polar Partners prepared a curriculum for middle and high school extracurricular program in Mexico. The curriculum includes three core areas: Technology and digital skills, Life Skills and English and Global Perspectives, and it is aimed at middle school (G7-9) and high school (G10-12) students.

The curriculum is part of an innovative program that entails a holistic approach and prepares students to become academically competent individuals but also encourages individual responsibility and active participation in the community.

Dynamic curriculum development process

The curriculum process was characterized by continuous dialogue and regular discussions between expert teams in Finland and Mexico. Specific characteristics of each subject area were considered, and the objectives of the curriculum are referenced to Finnish and European standards, such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in English and Global Perspectives. The two-phase project focused first on establishing a shared vision and a solid foundation followed by a structured development process adjusting and realigning content through a collaborative working approach.

The new curriculum helps teachers to nurture quality learning and implement instructional strategies that support different learners. The curriculum focus is on supporting students to acquire relevant skills and competences and learning to apply those skills.
